Verizon towers are struggling on the North Shore. It began this morning and the ETA for the fix is Tuesday or Wednesday. Seems to be impacting the area around the casino and Chateau St.

Hey all,

Just curious - what are the news outlets you like? Obviously not thinking about the paper being struck right now. Is there much of a difference in quality/trustworthiness of the TV news stations?

Otherwise, I've been checking our PublicSource and Pittsburgh Union Progress.

The judge is required to follow the jury’s decision. Here’s what to know.

A federal jury on Wednesday condemned to death the gunman who killed 11 worshipers at a Pittsburgh synagogue in October 2018, in what is considered the deadliest antisemitic attack in American history.

The jury’s decision, which is binding on the judge, was announced Wednesday in the same federal courtroom where the jurors in June convicted the gunman, Robert Bowers, 50, of carrying out the massacre during sabbath services nearly five years ago. The judge will formally impose the sentence at a hearing on Thursday morning, when families of some victims are expected to address the court.

In a statement, the family of two victims — Rose Mallinger, a 97-year-old member of the Tree of Life congregation who was killed in the attack, and Andrea Wedner, her daughter, who was wounded — thanked the jury. “Although we will never attain closure from the loss of our beloved Rose Mallinger, we now feel a measure of justice has been served,” the statement read.

Jurors deliberated for just under 10 hours before reaching the verdict.

Copied from the article:

Anti-Flag have broken up. Last night, the the long-running political punk band announced on Patreon that they had disbanded. The breakup is sudden. The band was on tour in Europe and they were scheduled to play in Prague with the Dropkick Murphys tomorrow night. The announcement includes very little context. Here it is, in full:

Anti-Flag has disbanded. the patreon has been switched into a mode where it will no longer charge the monthly fee. I will begin to process refunds to all patrons in the coming weeks. once all refunds are processed the patreon page will also be removed.

The band’s website and their social-media pages have all been removed. This leaves a lot of questions unanswered. On Reddit, fans pointed out a podcast episode that went live yesterday. On the latest episode of Enough, a podcast dedicated to sexual assault in the music business, a woman tells a story about being raped by the singer in a political punk band. She never names the band or the singer, but it’s hard to hear that story without connecting dots. The story is extremely upsetting, both in its details and in the sense of betrayal that surrounds it. You can hear it here.

Justin Geever, who goes by the stage name Justin Sane, started the first version of Anti-Flag in Pittsburgh in 1988. The band released their demo in 1992 and their debut album Die For The Government in 1996. Over the decades, Anti-Flag became hugely popular, moving to Fat Wreck Chords and then to RCA in the mid-’00s. The band has remained active in recent years, and they released their most recent album Lies They Tell Our Children earlier this year. For their entire lifespan, Anti-Flag have pushed left-wing principles and political causes.>>

Outdoor chess tables (lemmy.sdf.org)

I recently found myself in a discussion about outdoor chess tables in Pittsburgh. We went online to look for a list, but all we found was https://pittsburghchessclub.org/pittsburgh-outdoor-chess-tables/ . That list seems woefully incomplete. One instance I know of that is missing is the tables in East Liberty at Penn and Highland.

Know of any others?

On Android, you can download the Pulse Point app and select Allegheny County EMS to see emergencies in the county. Ive mostly used it to see why my powers out, again, but you can see a lot more.

Hey y'all, allow me to be the first to do an "asking for advice" post on here. Anyone have recommendations for realtors that are based in/specifically focus on the City of Pittsburgh? I feel like I've seen way too many who are like "Pittsburgh Realtor!!! Based in Cranberry Township (or other far out suburb/exurb)" and that I want to avoid that hassle. We have to live inside the city limits due to my partner's job with the city (and honestly, we'd probably be living in the city anyways). Looking primarily at neighborhoods in the South Side with good public transit options.

Any advice is appreciated!

Are you a Swifty? Celebrating Juneteenth? Kayaking to Sycamore Island to get away from people? What's everyone up to this weekend as our city gets slammed with activities?

Taylor Swift is playing at Acrisure. If Ticketmaster can't handle her fan traffic, I'm not sure our tunnels will fare very well.
