Some context: I’ve been woodworking for years. I bought a free-standing drill press about a decade ago at a woodshop closing sale and it sat in my parents basement for a decade unused.

When I moved out I acquired a tabletop drill press but found it wasn’t any stronger than my power drill for my purposes, and the drill bit could still flex so it wasn’t great for accuracy.

So over the years I’ve done pretty well using just a hand drill. I understand drill presses can help With repetitive drilling for patterns and consistency, but honestly, with hand tool woodworking and pine that hasn’t been a huge problem.

I’m debating selling mine. Would I be dumb to do that? Should I utilize it more? I was thinking it might be good for chairmaking as I can drill more consistent angles for the legs. When I drill angles by hand it’s not consistent.

Today I decided to wipe sawdust off of a planer while it was on.

Now I have one less finger.

Don't be a dumbass.
