IIRC the pedo submarine incident happened around 2012 or 2013. That was really the first major indication that something wasn't matching up with his Tony Stark PR image.
I know it feels like an eternity ago, but that whole incident happened in 2018.
Could have sworn it was longer ago than that. 2020 being 5 years long didn't help my perception of time
