No he isn't. And Anne Frank wasn't the queen asshole herself. What does that suggest about my comment?

[–] lath@lemmy.world -5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

That you didn't understand my ~~own~~ previous comment?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

My comment: sarcastically claiming a list of really cool people who were Jewish and definitely not assholes were actually assholes.

You: "Bernie Sanders is an asshole? Never seen him portrayed as such."

What am I not understanding?

[–] lath@lemmy.world -2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't know. What do they have to do with Columbus being known as an asshole?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ah, so that's the part we were at.

Cool.

Headline: "Christopher Columbus was Spanish and Jewish, documentary reveals"

You: "Is that supposed to explain why he was known to be an asshole?"

So if you didn't mean being a Jew explained why he was an asshole, did you mean that being Spanish explained why he was an asshole? Because I can list plenty of non-asshole people from Spain too.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well, you really didn't understand my comment then. It was a jab at the title.

Does his ancestry change any of his deeds? Nope. So he was part Jew. Whoop-dee-doo. Who cares. Why should it matter?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Looking at the downvotes, I don't think I was the only one who misunderstood, but thank you for clarifying. I agree. It only matters in an academic sense.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nah, it's fine. Communication is difficult and misunderstandings happen all the time. Can't be helped really since we all have different sets of knowledge and perspective.

[–] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If someone misunderstands what you've said, the fault lies with you.

Good communicators know this and take the time to make sure their comments are conveyed accordingly.

FYI the official internet vernacular to denote sarcasm or satire for a comment is to end the comment with backslash and the letter "S" like this: "/s"

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If you can't recognize that someone calling Anne Frank and Albert Einstein assholes is being sarcastic, I think you have bigger language issues.

[–] 11111one11111@lemmy.world -3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh you mean language issues commonly found in platforms that has individual instances independent to their creators that are frequented byendusers all across the globe that allows posings to be shared across all joining instances regardless of native language? My fucking word what a knockout homerun platform that would be! Could you imagine if this imaginary platform was also unfederated too?!?! Fuck that's such a million dollar idea I might abandon my pet rock get rich quick scheme I've been working on.
