A fan-made mod for Doom II, titled “Doom III,” has been teased, offering over 20 hours of new gameplay. Developed by Camaxide, this project has been in the works for 11 years and serves as a direct sequel to Doom II. Despite its name, this mod is unrelated to id Software’s Doom 3 from 2004.

Could this run afowl of Bethesda's legal team if it has the same exact name, despite being a mod?

Yes. It's officially a real name that they're infringing and could cause confusion.

It's so dumb. ID has historically been pretty lax with what modders do. You can literally name your mod anything but something copyrighted. And the modders decided to do that.

Yup! I was thinking the same exact thing a moment ago. Bad choice calling it Doom III
