It strikes me that we are witnessing a self-fulfilling prophecy in the making. It started out as mere act of trolling that the media ran with in its insatiable hunger for spectacle, amplifying it beyond reason. And now, what began as frivolity has turned into a subject of earnest debate.

Some billionaires or fellow dictators whispered to Trump that there are resources to exploit there, and maybe even a cool bunker for the climate wars, so Trump blurted it out and the media easily figured out the reasons.
