I really don't think so, they could have kept Biden and lost. He had no hope.

I feel like the DNC is so out of touch they thought Kamala could just run on DEI vibes and not-Cheeto® credentials and win, all the while proclaiming explicit Rightist stances and while supporting an unpopular genocide. They sometimes really are just oblivious elites.

I don't think they ever thought Harris could win. The DNC's internal polling reports showed her trailing by double-digits throughout the campaign.

I think they nominated her to prevent a wipe-out and to preserve their fundraising effectiveness. Running an extremely right-wing campaign was also aimed at keeping donors happy.
