3 already lowkey happened with BLM and then blaming immigration in order to beef up the police and “law and order”. But I have a feeling it’s going to happen again in a second stronger wave.

This is why active physical protests are being discouraged. It's playing into their hand and won't accomplish what we want.

We have to play smarter because even if we are perfectly good and peaceful and somehow right wing jackoffs aren't sneaking in to stir the pot? The media will frame it as a barely contained pot about to boil over.

They will do it whether we protest or not.

[–] singletona@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

In time, yes. They will manufacture a reason for their crackdowns.

However that does not mean we should hand them that excuse. The longer it takes for them, the more time we have to try getting out of this mess, or at least longer for other countries to see what's going on.

I've seen this movie before.

I am also disabled.

"Longer for other countries to see what's going on" ?

The fuck dude, what exactly are you expecting us to do about it ? You guys elected him (well supposedly, I'm skeptical it was a fair election but anyway).

You seriously want the rest of the world to do a coup and topple your elected head of state ? Even assuming we collectively had the military heft to do so (we don't) many Americans who would otherwise be against him would line up behind him (and rightly so)

YOU guys (USA) collectively created this, you need to find yourselves a solution. We can't fix this for you.

If you look at Hitler's first 3 months you should get a good idea what will work and what the consequences of leaving action too late will be.

Yeah, just do nothing and hope other people stop them from getting anything done! Great plan!

Don't worry, Democrats have already announced a plan: seek to secure the vote of moderate Republicans in the 2026 midterms.

Because it worked so well in 2024, 2020, 2016, 2012, etc.

Dems will nominate Ted Cruz as their candidate in 2028 to appeal to non-MAGA Republicans. Centrist dems will then demand everyone support him because, in theory, he'll be a little bit better than Trump, who is running for his third term. Remember, as a voter, the only criteria you're allowed to use is whether the Dem candidate is slightly better than the Republican one. If you're a Democrat, it is your moral duty to vote for Ted Cruz in 2028. If you don't, you're morally responsible for anything Trump does in his third term.

And this is why we need to replace corporate and centrist Dems with actual leftists - there's like 3 in the whole party.

A protest vote in the presidential is ineffectual, but replacing the party with people who will actually do something will lead to them fielding actually competent candidates.

There's a new leader at the DNC. I don't know much about him but I truly hope he isn't so corrupt that he can't see what's happening. Biden stayed essentially center right and won. Kamala we've further right and failed. I honestly don't think there will be anything close to fair elections in 2028, so 2026 might be their last stand.

They must learn the lesson that progressive policies have wide support among Americans that aren't fascist. Run progressive candidates who aren't afraid to call Trump and Musk and their administration exactly what they are

Above all, the electorate must understand that this is likely their last chance to put the brakes on Trump, if it's not already impossible by then. This is not the time for purity tests, protest votes, or sitting out the election for any reason.

So we go for the media first 😈

[–] singletona@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

We do have to act. Else it will happen.

Best time to act was forty five years ago in denying regan.

Second best time is now
