What a weird addition to a news app. The news app was a load of garbage when I tried to use it back in the day but what’s next? News+ Microblogging?

I would imagine News+ is struggling for paying subscribers. So they’re trying anything. They added crosswords, which was a nice addition, but still not worth paying for. Most of Apple news is full of ads disguised as news stories and even when you pay for the service there are still ads embedded. I’m not paying extra for that.

The only advantage I found for news plus was that you could share a paywalled news story from a website to the Apple news app (using the share menu). This would usually unlock the story if the content was included in Apple news.

AdGuard DNS blocks all of the ads in Apple News. Made it way more usable for me.

For the most part I like the news app now and it has been growing quick but yeah this is kind of weird.

It’s not that weird:

Recipes are actually quite common for a lot of papers, and Apple News+ has a lot of those as well as almost every recipe published in a magazine.
