See, now this would affect Elon Musk. Vandalizing people's cars that may have been purchased 10 years ago doesn't do anything.

It still does actually, tanking the resale value will dramatically cut into new car sales. Encouraging current owners to sell absolutely does have an affect.

(It also raises insurance premiums for Tesla's, also hurting their market)

If you burn down 10 cars at a tesla factory, doesn't that just mean that they just sold 10 cars because i assume they are insured?

Insurance can (and probably will) increase prices if they're more likely to be vandalized.

And guess who's gonna pay for this in the long run. Musk? Lol. No, the average tesla-worker-joe.

I think it's fair to say Musk already screws them to the maximum extent possible, so the degree to which they are screwed is probably not responsive to changes in insurance premiums and we can expect that to more or less come straight out of Musk's pocket.

I was under the impression that the company owner pays for insurance?

[–] meekah@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I guess they're saying the workers will get lower pay/ no raises because of the increased operational costs.

My best guess would be that the customers will have to deal with higher prices, though.

Tesla needs to go out of business.

[–] meekah@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

I agree, but I don't think that's gonna happen soon, sadly.

Nah I’d say vandalising existing teslas definitely does something. It drives the narrative that this vehicle is a fucking liability and makes it difficult to ignore. I’m not condoning damaging peoples cars mind you, if it’s an older one they might just be caught in the crossfire. Nevertheless, it’s only a car.

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

Cybertrucks sure, fair game. Brand new Teslas, same. But I'm sure there's decent folk that can't sell their older Teslas today without taking a big loss...

I'm against wasting, even if it's a Tesla, but maybe in this case it helps avoid wasting a lot in the future..
