Yes. In German pretty much any Noun, Verb or Adjective can be transformed into the other forms.

As for names "merkeln" -> to just sit in place and do nothing and "lindnern" -> to sabotage group works at last minute have made it into youth language at some point.

Especially verbs are quite versatile in German as you can use particles with them. So you could also say "herummerkeln" -> to merkel around, if it is particularly obnoxious.

To me using a name like a verb in English like this makes perfect sense.
