What would be the point of letting her know ?
I think the point is that she would choose how to respond.
Sure but to give her that opportunity you need to seek her our, which is exactly what her harasser wants.
If there were something she could do that might make it worth it. There isn't, so all you can possibly achieve is additional harm.
You’re right. Who would want to know they are unwittingly being used as some scammer’s campaign across the whole of the fediverse; possibly because their computer was hacked and having their webcam used against them? That would just be creepy; not the part where my image is being used by scammers, but because some stranger on the internet made the effort to let me know. 🙄 /s
It doesn't seem likely to me that the images are from a hacked web cam. Much more likely that it's an acquaintance who has spoken to her on video chat.
Another opinion:
Oh please. As though "we from the fediverse" have any special knowledge that any interested party couldn't gather in a moment.
You could probable just search "fediverse nicole" and come straight here.
If she's not aware then making her aware won't help in any way. If she is aware, which is by far the most likely, then you're just part of the harassment.
I understand the motivation to be a hero and "do the right thing" but in this case the right thing is to do nothing.
So you are saying tracking down the perv posting the spam is the best course of action?
