Not exactly accurate. The US is not only sticking a knife in itself, it is also sticking an even bigger one in Europe. Europe meanwhile is basically saying thank you to the US for doing this, and even helping them by adding another knife in themselves.
I was gonna say, Europe already committed economic seppuku three years ago at the behest of the US.
