Basically this. Looking forward to South Park mocking how fuck stupid this administration is

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 54 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

South Park lost me with their many, many "both sides" over the years. I have yet to see them properly stab MAGA in the face out of more than temporary shame.

It was hard to stay on board as a transwoman with the blatant transphobia and all that.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 25 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

"we can make fun of everyone! so we're going to run a years-long transphobic storyline!"

like, no, that's exactly how priests who diddle kids rationalize it - I do good things so I can't do bad.

South park becomes extremely vapid once you're over 28 years old.

You can't just always pick the middle of two sides of an argument and assume you're always right.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 2 points 1 hour ago

So much this.

The problem with the BoTh SiDeS crowd is that they have opted out of thinking and believe that by blaming both sides they've found a cheat code that allows them to always be right. Real life is not so simple that there's a one size fits all solution to everything.

This is actually why RESPECTABLE religious groups have theologists that study the bible and why the Vatican has a pope to say which passages are relevant for the modern day.

(One of the Pope's last rulings for example was that while the Catholic Church still believes in strict gender roles, it's not cool with transphobia, citing legitimate medical need for transition)

There are no shortcuts, you must engage with all information you receive.

You can't just say "Compromise?" in an argument between a fire fighter and an arsonist.

South Park has traditionally supported the GOP by either normalizing things or both-sides'ing.

Don't expect them to suddenly stop now.

[–] AlexLost@lemm.ee 5 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I wouldn't call that support, just not flat out calling it bad. They just tell you like it is, you gotta make the call of what's right and wrong with what's going on. I'd say they lean more "liberal" personally, but they rich AF so not in the same game we are playing anyways.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 12 points 12 hours ago

They literally had a decades long arc about climate change being as ridiculous an idea as "manbearpig" That's not what I'd call left leaning

I'm pretty sure this administration is using South Park and the Simpsons as a guide.
