4 and a half minutes, or 5 and a half with the minute long title intro, into this and i'm already getting heavy vibes just from this screen cap that I'm going to want to chuck the writer, and everyone who signed off on this into the sun.

this is one of those episodes of trek where you're left wondering if you actually watched star trek at all; trip was right, that being was clearly, forcefully subjugated and archer was wrong for chastising trip for helping.

later on in enterprise's run, when the maco's were portrayed as good guys and the cartoonishly evil reptilian and insectoid xindi's became a thing, it became clear that 9/11 had an impact on enterprise and i that's when i took a break from star trek.

i've taking the same break from the new section 31 movie and for similar reasons. i'll still watch it like i watched the rest of enterprise years later; it's just that it's so clearly anti-humanist and filled with american jingoism that it's hard to accept that has anything to do with star trek.

There's a slight problem here, this is an ENT Prime Directive episode, which considering the track record for PD episodes post TNG (which even TNG has some stinker PD episodes I would add), so this is entirely on brand by this point. Especially if you take a look at the other ~~notable~~ notorious PD episode ENT has, Dear Doctor.

Like if you go look up the scene of Archer chastising Trip in this episode, you'll find a bunch of comments about "This is why the Prime Directive exists" with zero critical thought whatsoever.

it was almost par for the course; the difference is that the other personal development episodes didn't re-enforce an clearly discriminatory social hierarchy like this one did.
