How about we ban zionism
Get rid of word antisemitic first. It is over used word to kill Palestinians civilians.
Despite its weaponization by Israel, antisemitism remains a valid category of hate. It's one of the greatest disservices of Israel to the Jewish diaspora world wide to appropriate it like this.
In fact the fight against antisemitism in the world is directly linked with Palestine liberation: If Jews are able to live safe, free and fulfilled lives outside of Israel, the entire Zionist argument for Israel as the safe haven falls apart. I want my Jewish neighbours to live free and happy here with me, not to migrate to Israel! So any antisemitic attack on them here is a complete outrage, as it reinforces the narrative that they need Israel for safety.
Each Jew that lives in the diaspora is one less Israeli colonist. Protect them!
on top of that, Israel wants antisemitism.
they want Jews afraid, so they go to Israel to populate the illegal settlements.
Just to add to that. A decade ago there was a campaing Olim L'Berlin, which was a Facebook group promoting Israelis to move to Berlin. It ended up with basically every Israeli politican shitting on it.
Thank you for this. Never heard that argument before.
Exactly. There's been far too much hate against Jewish people throughout history, almost always as scapegoats to cover for the consequences of someone else's greed (kings, dictators, and other authoritarians love to do this). Always stand up for your he-bros and he-broettes when antisemites harass and/or attack them.
There's no excuse for an ethnostate in the 21st century. Nor is there excuse for letting our fellow human beings be attacked for their religious, sexual, or gender identity.
It's ironic since Palestinians are a semetic people too
better yet, expand it to mean Semitic people.
because Palestinians aren't just Semitic people, they are descendants of the jews who lived there and converted during the islamic expansion. they are the jews who stayed in Palestine and lived in peace (for the most part it was 2000 years of history) with the jews who remain Jewish in the area.
we are brothers.
also, Semitic as a race/ethnicity is a literal nazi term used for their scientific racism. if there's a reason to get rid of it, that's it.
Nah bro, no need to redefine words. Antisemitism is an old old European problem, the hatred directed to Jews by us Europeans. We have a long history of it, all the way back to the origins of Christianity and we shouldn't be given a pass for it. It's a useful word, but Israel is pointing it as Palestinians, who are only fighting for national liberation, when it should instead remain squarely pointed at us Westerners. It's extremely telling how Germany for example is using antisemitism as a cudgel to attack pro-Palestinian migrants, while covering up the surviving and very real homegrown German antisemitism.
We are all siblings of course, we are all humans.
i think the term itself dates to nazis...
brb, double checking...
Using semitic to refer to jews was german scientific racism. Which then was used for antisemitism.
although antisemitism isnt a German invention, the term is.
Yes it is of German origin but so far back that it is basically at the root of European Enlightenment and it's intellectual history brings together Germany and France, etc. So I wouldn't say it is exclusive to the Nazis. As a word it has deeper roots in the European intellectual tradition.
(quoting Wikipedia)
reply, sorry. I'm in another thread with someone who's straight up antisemitic. thought it was his reply, my bad.
if you had reading comprehension, you would understand that it was made to be used for scientific racism. because otherwise 'jewish' is just a religion and not an ethnicity.
but Bigots don't tend to have reading comprehension
Which is incredibly ironic, as Palestinians are a semitic people. Using antisemitism as a shield to be antisemitic is peak irony. Though most who throw the word around have no idea what "semitic" even means.
No. Antisemitism is still a very present thing. Criticizing Israel's government and opposing the zionism movement isn't the same as hating Jewish people for simply being Jewish.
Jewish people are still victims of hate regardless of anything. Just because Israel is using it to justify a genocide doesn't mean we should forget about it.
Yep we get that. There is anti semitism that still exist with neo Nazis. But anti Zionist is not anti Semitic
There's a decent amount of active antisemitism, look at the crazy Republican cult shit. Anytime someone uses "others" as a scapegoat, from lizard people to globalists, it's just a dog whistle for Jew.
I will stand for Jews who are being targeted for their ethnicity and relgion. Who they are does not define them, their actions do. If they are anti-zionist I have no problem, same as everyone around me. If they are a Zionist, I have a problem, same as everyone.
Abolishing the term antisemitic isn't going to solve the issue of Gaza, they'll shift to a new word or older phrases. If anything Israel using it makes calling out actual antisemitic asshats an issue.
Exactly same here.
Do it if you can, of course. Lol.
