She also begged Simon to come to the lunch, even tried to guilt him with how hard she'd worked and how much she's spent. Along your thoughts, maybe she wanted to make them a bit sick so she could take care of them and show how important she is?

The fact that Simon didn't come to the lunch could've tipped her into the "you'll have to talk to me sooner or later".
