Oh no what's wrong with your heart?

[–] TinyLittlePuni@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (5 children)

POTS and cardioinhibitory syncope. Both stem from genetic abnormalities. The first one is severe enough that my heart rate has been as high as 260 bpm, the second one is severe enough that my heart stopped for a few moments during a tilt table test. I wouldn't wish it on anyone but ivabradine has been an absolute godsend

God that's stressful and scary, I wouldn't wish it on anyone either. How are you managing it all?

[–] TinyLittlePuni@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I'm managing things so much better since I got my prescription of ivabradine! I have the hypovolemic type of POTS meaning my blood volume is abnormally low and because of that my perfusion is also low which makes my heart freak out. Ivabradine not only slows my heart it also makes each heartbeat stronger so more blood can be effectively pumped around my body

I still have to be wary about standing still for too long and I still have to consume massive amounts of salt on a regular basis to keep my blood volume up otherwise I become a cold shaking mess. On the plus side I never have to worry about getting high blood pressure!

Sounds like you're doing great, well done for managing it all!
