edit: a lot of this is wrong. See my reply.
I'm still up in the air about what to do with !aom@lemm.ee. My first instinct was to take this as an opportunity for consolidation and to try to grow an RTS community by posting to !rts@reddthat.com.
But it doesn't look great right now. In the original community I could pretty reliably get at least 2 or 3 upvotes indicating people saw it and appreciated it, in this new community I'm getting nothing. And neither is the sole other poster, @reddthat@reddthat.com, who was posting to it. And the other related communities, !strategygames@sopuli.xyz and !realtimestrategy@lemmy.world are even more devoid of response.
So I'm wondering if part of the issue is that reddthat may be too small of an instance and many users may not be able to find it due to federation issues. And maybe I should take the opportunity to sync over to Piefed, or launch a community in one of the instances recommended by @Illecors@lemmy.cafe or @DosDude@retrolemmy.com in the community's announcement post (or go with my initial idea of lemmy.zip).
But obviously the issue can't only be the size of the instance, since even the two larger existing instances are seeing so much less engagement than the one I'm moving away from. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why this could be and what to do.

Ok that's on me. I wasn't subscribed to the community, so my instance wasn't getting any federation through. Still, I dunno if I should be nervous or not about reddthat's longevity. It does seem to be a single-user instance, which feels risky.
Single user? We have 300+ users who actively call Reddthat home and we won't be going anywhere. We are nearly cash flow positive thanks to our amazing users and recurring donations.
I've seen your posts and as your mod on !aom i'd be happy to make you mod of our !rts community to help grow it!
Edit: I know @reddthat@reddthat.com would love the help
Oh, thanks, and my bad! I looked at "local" from on reddthat.com and only noticed foreign users' posts, so combining that with the name of the !rts mod made me think they were the instance admin and only active user. Glad to see I was wrong!
Sure, I'd be happy to! As long as it wouldn't be stepping on toes.
