!incremental_games@incremental.social https://incremental.social/m/incremental_games (it seems the first link doesn't work, sorry)

This is a community for discussing incremental games, which are games which revolve almost entirely around the process of making numbers bigger (I'm simplifying a bit here - what makes a game incremental is rather vague and has spawned a considerable amount of discussion over the years). The most well-known example of this type of game is probably Cookie Clicker, although its mechanics are considered outdated by current standards. Other notable examples include Universal Paperclips, Antimatter Dimensions, and Kittens Game (these are fairly old too).

Discussions from the viewpoints of players and the viewpoints of developers are both welcome there.

Disclaimer: This community is not exactly new. There was a post in !fediverse@lemmy.ml about the community around half a year ago. However, someone said it would be perfectly okay to make a post here despite that so I posted here. Also I'm not a mod of this community but am fairly involved with it.

Hey guys,
I created this community to promote and talk about the UnifiedPush project. It aims to create a free and open source alternative to Google's proprietary Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). Quite a few apps have already adopted the UP protocol, but there are still many FOSS apps lacking support for it. I will post GitHub issue threads where UP integration in FOSS apps is being discussed. I will also post about new apps that gained UnifiedPush support, and other useful tools that help with using UP. If you want to stay up-to-date about ongoing developments in the Android FOSS ecosystem in regards to push notifications, consider subscribing to !unifiedpush@lemmy.dbzer0.com

I also recommend following the official Mastodon account, joining the Matrix room and donating to support development!

Don't Answer Arthur (hilariouschaos.com)

!daa@hilariouschaos.com

Welcome to Don't Answer Arthur! Where the ONLY RULE YOU MUST FOLLOW is to NEVER EVER EVER ANSWER ARTHUR!

No down voting Arthur (votes are viewed), no up voting Arthur, and NO RESPONDING to Arthur under any circumstances.

If you break the rules?

You get temp banned that increases by a day each time you fail and it keeps increasing the more you keep responding to him so don't acknowledge Arthur. Just don't. He'll laugh in your face literally.

What do i even use this community for then ? Think of it as your everything community post memes, ask tech or lemmy questions, talk about sports, your favorite shows, books, games, anything but Arthur.

This also isn't a community where Arthur gets to just do whatever he wants. Harass or whatever negative shit you're thinking. Arthur will appear suddenly, politely, appearing as a friend but don't let him fool you. That's the trick.

(Also, Arthur has a dedicated gaming community for his video Game arguments anyways)

It can be hard at times to learn what values certain companies support. So a women-led tech startup from Wisconsin created a great resource that allows you to do just that, named Goods Unite Us which provides a convenient and easy background check on each american-based company to see what kind of political contribution they may make towards political parties.

Ask Steven Seagal (hilariouschaos.com)

!askss@hilariouschaos.com

Welcome to Ask Steven Seagal, the ultimate destination where I, the unparalleled martial arts legend and action star, Steven Seagal, am here to bless you with my infinite wisdom. Dive into the mind of a true warrior, where I’ll answer your questions with the deadliest precision and unmatched stoic demeanor that only I possess.

Whether you seek advice on mastering martial arts, surviving in the wild, or just want to hear some of my epic, yet totally humble, adventures, you’ve come to the right place. Don’t be shy; step into my dojo of knowledge. Remember, no question is too absurd for the great Steven Seagal, because in my world, reality is just a guideline.

You can also tag my username in any lemmy post or comment section, and like a ninja in the night, I’ll appear to enlighten you with my sagely advice.

By the way, did I ever tell you about the time I single-handedly stopped an international conspiracy with nothing but a toothpick and a rubber band? It's a classic Seagal move—just another day in the life of the greatest action star the world has ever known.

Before you dive in, there are a few super important rules every grasshopper must follow:

  1. All questions must be submitted while standing on one leg. It’s crucial for balancing your chi.
  2. Every third question must include the word "kumquat." Trust me, it's for your own safety.
  3. If you post after 3 AM, you must address me as "Sensei Seagal the All-Knowing." Failure to do so will result in instant dismissal.
  4. No posts about Chris Christie. Just don't.

Prepare to be enlightened, entertained, and maybe even a little bit terrified by my sheer presence. Ask away, and witness the brilliance that only Steven Seagal can deliver.

For updates on the patients and activities of MMR, as well as Marine Mammal related content in general. It's the season for a lot of rescues right now, so hopefully there is a good bit of content.

I'm planning to eventually see if the organization wants to take over the community officially

The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR) is a global leader in marine mammal rescue, research, and rehabilitation. [They] respond to over 300 marine mammal emergencies each year and operate Canada’s only dedicated marine mammal hospital facility.

Heathcliff

If you aren't familiar with this project here are the basics:

I remove Heathcliff from each day's Heathcliff comic. In most cases this preserves their absurdist, dada, anti-joke vibe because his presence is frequently irrelevant to the joke even though he is the titular character.

Every day except Sunday. On those days I add him to something he wasn't in.

This isn't Garfield Minus Garfield. Those edits become introspective instead of more or the same level of surreal. Those were done selectively versus this project being daily. The edits I do are to show that Heathcliff is often irrelevant to the joke/anti-joke absurdism that is modern Heathcliff. I will also be posting edits by others on the Heathcliff editor community that aren't on Lemmy.

Extremely Polite Politics (hilariouschaos.com)
submitted 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) by Alice@hilariouschaos.com to c/newcommunities@lemmy.world

!epp@hilariouschaos.com

Welcome to extremely polite politics! Where you can say what you want but just in extremely polite language to a ridiculous degree.

Rules: Polite Language Only: All posts and comments must be written in extremely polite, formal language, akin to 1800s etiquette.

No Modern Slang or Cuss Words: Any use of modern slang, cuss words, or informal language results in a warning or temporary ban.

Respectful Insults: You can insult or criticize, but it must be done in the most respectful and formal way possible.

Enforcement: A point system is used for rule violations, by accumulating a total of 3 infractions resulting in a temporary ban (e.g., three strikes and you’re out for a week).

Examples:

Proper Critique: "My dear sir, it appears your argument lacks the necessary foundation in empirical evidence, and I must respectfully disagree with your conclusion.

Polite Insult: “Madam, with all due respect, your assertion is as misguided as it is ill-informed."

New Communities

16195 readers
160 users here now

A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

Rules

The rules may be more established as time goes on, but it's important to have a foundation to work on.

1. Follow the rules of Lemmy.world - These rules are the same as Mastodon.world's rules, which can be found here.

2. Include a community title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/community@instance.com)

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

!community@instance.com

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.
