Yes, usually referred to as potholing in the UK. Squeezing through tight spaces underground for fun!
It sounds like the absolute worst, and everyone I know who's ever been into it has been kind of crazy in other ways too. But hey whatever floats your boat ๐
It's definitely not for everyone that's for sure. I've been underground with new cavers who swore they weren't claustrophobic until we reached a squeeze, then reality comes calling!
Ah spelunking in the US. Why has it gotten harder?
Harder as in access to caves, or age related aches and pains?! Access to most caves in the UK is pretty straight forward if you are a member of a club. Many caves are protected and require permissions. The age related issues just keep getting worse each year ๐
