My kid is 18 and he feels like tv series older than 3 years are also ancient.

Something about being that age I think.

For me it's the opposite. I see a movie from 2001 and think: oh, what's this new movie.

You have good taste :) Movies from back then are better than today's movies in my opinion but they are often slower so may make you feel impatient. :)
