It reads like they think invasion means when you first attack, and not simply being where you're not wanted through force with the intent of controlling it.
"Germany invaded Poland, Russia merely occupied it!"
I read it as "by the time the USSR invaded it was already Germany's summer home and no longer 'Poland' proper" which is also still just as ridiculous.
Especially inside of seventeen days.
