Yesterday I had a Facebook memory about Disney World opening back up in July 2020.

And my mom had posted this in the comments with a sad face.

She was at Disney by October. doomer

Overton window might be simplified as hell but the average person does base their behavior relative to their in-group and the out groups in the world around them. And those consent manufacturing bastards have moved all the groups way out to the right. doomjak

My dad watches a lot of the news (we don't have 24/7 news channels here but he watches 2 separate local news reports + like an hour of local YouTube channels that just read out crime headlines) so he voluntarily gives himself crime wave brainworms. I've had so many conversations with him about the way he lives in perpetual fear of getting killed by drug traffickers, something that happens in a scale of 10s of people per year, yet has taken 0 covid precautions to prevent dying of covid, which has obviously killed thousands of people in my country, or being disabled, which is an order of magnitude more common. People are just very vulnerable to sensationalism and narratives, I think.
