In NZ I bought a toy Tui bird with a sound box. When the local currawongs call I press the Tui button. Silence in return.

( Tuis are adorable, they are about the size of a lorikeet, are dark green with little white tufts in their chins, are clowns and have a sweet call )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bqw9LvW2nvw they sound like R2D2!

I also saw the Milky Way at night. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒŒ

They are so cute. I was amazed by Kiwis too - the way they stomp around in the dark. It's so clear they had no natural predators. So glad you had so many good experiences on holiday

omg, the kiwis are the cutest thing I have ever seen . We went to a kiwi house where they have kiwi research and there was an enclosed habitat with viewing under very low light conditions.

The kiwis are so big which got me by surprise. Quite verbal with calls and yes, they stomp around. ๐Ÿ’–

We went here to the Nocturnal Kiwi house https://www.newzealand.com/au/plan/business/kiwi-north-museum-kiwi-house-and-heritage-park/ Photos were not allowed. In fact photos were allowed in few places, hence mostly beach pictures.
