Hate shit like this. Just this morning I went to join a Discord server for motorsports. Don't really use Discord too much, but wanted to see what was going on. It says my email is verified, but I need to add my phone number. Fine, enter my number, then get the code and when I enter the code, it pops up an error saying that number is already in use so I can't join.
Well no shit it's in use. It's in use by me. All Google searches say to delete the phone number in the settings, but there is no phone number in my settings. Apparently this is a common issue in Discord, but they refuse to acknowledge it. WTF is wrong with these companies. Why piss off your own customers?
I still don't get the phone verification, is such an insecure method of verification compared with likes of 2FA through an authenticator app or an security key, but still it is pushed down our throats like vegetables in 3yo. Not to metion, like what if I don't have a SIM card, that's odd for an adult but little kids could have phones just to video call the parents or make VoIP calls.
Oh, the reason Discord does it is not for security, it's for safety. Buying new phone numbers is more expensive than email so they expect people to not do it to bypass a ban for example.
