I wonder if anyone has told them about digital downloads and moving sourcecode using network cables. If not, I bet they're going to feel really silly moving crates of code up and down freight elevators in their huge meat-space office. /s
It is kind of hard to check hardware prototypes into version control.
I assume that first party game developers are sometimes working with unannounced hardware that Nintendo might not want leaving the office. It also makes it easier to call a hardware engineer over when you break the system.
That makes sense.
