People are leaving lemmy because of the quality of the apps

They are used to using a terrible app that often breaks and spams you with notifications of random posts

In majority of cases they're abused to keep users engaged.

Maybe so but apparently that's what most people want.

Personally, if I find that an app abuses notifications just to keep me coming back, I just turn them off or delete the app entirely.

Really? TBF it took me trying out a few until I found something I liked, but I'm using Voyager on iOS now and it's almost as good as Apollo (RIP) used to be. It's so similar you'd think it was made by the same dev (it's not).
