Around 760 flights were canceled at Munich Airport on Saturday due to heavy snowfall, an airport spokesperson told CNN.

Buses, trams, and some train services in Munich were also suspended due to the snow, according to Munich’s public transport company.

Munich’s central train station was closed for arrivals, while long-distance services have been suspended entirely, according to Germany’s national railway company Deutsche Bahn.

As someone living in Munich it was and is crazy seeing that much snow in one day. Local news said Munich topped the old record of snow for december. 1933 there was 43cm during the whole month and yesterday it was 44cm on a single day. Austria also had some trouble with traffic and there is a huge risk of avalanches for the whole east alp region.

I wish I was there. And it was closer to Christmas. I haven't seen real snow since I moved to Germany and never a white Christmas. When I was a kid in Michigan, we would get 70cm a day, over and over, from October to May

It's beautiful, but there was a good chance to get stuck everywhere in cars without all-wheel drive. In my neighborhood the snow services dont run through to remove the snow from road and parkings, so you have to do it by hand. Took 3 hours to free our house with 2 people and there was not much place left to shovel the snow too. Over night the temperatures dropped to ~ -12°C so everything is frozen now too. Can't imagine what 70 cm in a day would be like. This was probably the highest single day snowfall i experienced, the only comparable time was i think in 2005

But yeah has been a while since i last saw a white christmas. Nowadays the most snowfall seems to happen in february/march

The experience all depends on what people are prepared for. The counties and cities in the Upper Midwest have plenty of specialized equipment for cleaning everything up and individuals all have plow trucks or gas snowblowers. I really only care about snow for Christmas and I've been let down a lot, but I'll let myself hope for this year
