FTA:

"The district attorney's office will determine if prosecution is warranted."

Aha! That explains it!

Nobody does, the problem is claiming water damage with no evidence.

For those who missed it:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/aug/07/donald-trump-rape-language-e-jean-carroll

“The only issue on which the jury did not find in Ms Carroll’s favour was whether she proved that Mr Trump ‘raped’ her within the narrow, technical meaning of that term in the New York penal law.

“The jury … was instructed that it could find that Mr Trump ‘raped’ Ms Carroll only if it found that he forcibly penetrated Ms Carroll’s vagina with his penis.

"It could not find that he ‘raped’ her if it determined that Mr Trump forcibly penetrated Ms Carroll’s private sexual parts with his fingers – which commonly is considered ‘rape’ in other contexts – because the New York penal law definition of rape is limited to penile penetration.”

So the only reason he wasn't convicted on the rape charge is that his dick is so small they couldn't definitively prove it was his penis.

"based on all of the evidence at trial and the jury’s verdict as a whole, the jury’s finding that Mr Trump ‘sexually abused’ Ms Carroll implicitly determined that he forcibly penetrated her digitally – in other words, that Mr Trump in fact did ‘rape’ Ms Carroll as that term commonly is used and understood in contexts outside of the New York penal law."

The more I hear about the Switch 2, the more appropriate that seems...

Usually when I make this recipe, I use 1/2 dried cranberries and 1/2 dried currants. Buuuut I'm all out of currants. ☹️ So 1/2 cranberries, 1/2 shredded coconut it is!

Bake 30 minutes, rotate left to right, front to back. Bake 20 minutes. Top with more shredded coconut. Bake 10 minutes.

Still cooling so I haven't sliced it yet.

Base recipe: Blackcurrant banana bread:

INGREDIENTS:

3 ripe bananas

60g melted butter (1/4 cup or 1/2 a stick)

150g sugar (2/3 cup)

200g unbleached flour (1 1/4 cups)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 egg, beaten

1 teaspoon baking soda

150g of fresh or frozen blackcurrants (without defreezing before use) (1 1/2 cups)

PREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)

Mash the bananas in a bowl

Add the egg and butter

Put all the dry ingredients together into a fine mesh sieve or sifter and sift into the bowl

Mix well with a wooden spoon

Bake in a buttered loaf pan until a toothpick stuck into the bread comes out clean, 55 to 60 minutes.

Slice and serve.

$200 tickets... Woof!

Just got home from it... Tonally, Gunn absolutely nails it. The main characters are perfectly done, the B-list characters like Mister Terriffic and Metamorpho are perfectly done.

There are issues with some of the C-list / background characters.

Hawkgirl didn't really have much to do and I don't think Gunn knew what to do with her, which is a shame. Giving her a hawk shriek instead of actual dialog was... a choice. She needed more speaking lines.

Similarly, the background characters at the Planet, Cat Grant, Steve Lombard, were just kind of "there". Nobody, not even Perry White, has a "Hey, where's Clark?" moment. I think Gunn was just working from a checklist of who to include.

Ma Kent... I don't know where she's from, but it aint Kansas... Loved the Kents interactions with Clark, but... OK, I'm biased, I married a woman from Kansas, I've been to both Oklahoma and Kansas... I don't know what that accent is.

All of those are minor quibbles. It was a great way to do Superman.

Now: Spoilers:

spoilerEaster egg reference to Mister Mxyzptlk. Lois and Clark are having a serious conversation while outside the window Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl and Mister Terriffic are fighting a giant glowing eyeball. "Oh, it's just an extra-dimensional imp, they got this."

Setting up Supergirl - Krypyo is her dog, Supes is just pet-sitting while she runs off to a red-sun planet so she can get plastered. The opening of Woman of Tomorrow.

With Mister Terrific and Metamorpho in the same movie, we've now had 1/2 of "The Terriffics", all we need now are Plastic Man and Phantom Girl(!)

It's Ye Olde Age of Apocalypse all over again...

Amazing X-Men

Unbreakable X-Men

Expatriate X-Men

Radioactive Spider-man

X-Vengers

Iron and Frost

Binary

Longshots

Sinister's Six

Cloak And Dagger(?) - Looks like Cloak OR Dagger in the logo...

Omega Reds(?) - Looks more like Omega Kids to me...

Undead-Pool

The Lost Wolverine(?) - I don't think they proof-read this list... Logo clearly says "The LAST Wolverine".

Laura Kinney: Sabretooth

Rogue Storm

X-Men: Book Of Revelation

"The 42-story building sold to Jeff Swickard, the CEO and founder of the Swickard Auto Group. Our news partners at Willamette Week report that the sale was for about $45 million in an all-cash deal.

The Unico/US Bancorp Tower building last sold for a little more than $370 million in 2015 and was expected to sell for a fraction of that price."

So, first, can't say I've heard of Swickard before... second... 45/370 = 12.16% of the previous sale price. Whoof!

Big week in a big month for comics fans! Enjoy!

New and notable this week, if you can tear yourself away from all the Superman and Fantastic Four news:

Archie Meets Jay And Silent Bob #1 (One Shot)

There HAVE been crazier crossovers...

Batman Gotham By Gaslight A League For Justice #1 (Of 6) - Originally the last Gotham By Gaslight series was just supposed to be 12 issues, but they split it in half at the introduction of the Gaslight Justice League.

Blood Type #2 (Of 4) - 1st long form comic from the new E.C. Vampire story stemming from Epitaphs From the Abyss. Not sure where E.C. goes after this, all the other titles have ended.

Fantastic Four #1 - Yup, rebooting the FF AGAIN, just in time for the movie.

not to be confused with...

Fantastic Four First Steps #1 - The In-Marvel Cinematic Universe origin of the FF from the new movie, using the likenesses of all the actors.

Future Is ****** #3 - New comics company comes out of nowhere with an ambitious 60 issue plan.

Gotham City Sirens Unfit For Orbit #2 (Of 5) - Harley, Ivy and Catwoman vs... WAIT, Despero? WTF?

Life #5 - Like Bad Idea, glad to see DSTLRY is back on track, Life is a flip book, protagonist story on one side, antagonist on the other. 6th and final issue in the fall.

Planet Death #0 (Of 4)
Planet Death #1 (Of 4) - Bad Idea comics back again! I thought they died!

Solomon Kane The Serpent Ring #4 (Of 4) - Love me some obscure Robert E. Howard characters. Everyone knows Conan, nobody knows Solomon Kane.

Trinity Daughter Of Wonder Woman #2 (Of 6) - Time travel with 3 iterations of Trinity. Teen Ttinity mackin' on teen Jason Todd... hilarious!

Uncanny X-Men #17 - Introduces "Mutina", an in universe slasher film with a Mutant M3gan.
