How do they make that children's mascot look so much like a predator? How do they take such a basic, simple design and make it so uncannily sinister?

The obscured eyes, the canted-down face, the vaguely threatening eyebrows, the thin smile, the fucking thumbs up.

I think I know the answer - anyone evil enough to make this book is so disconnected from humanity that they don't understand why people will hate this. They've made someone they like; they've made a version of themselves. I guess it's good that the people who are trying to fuck the entire human race are also incapable of hiding who they are.

Someone was paid to draw this. Someone probably with a background in art who wanted to make something nice instead of making evil shit for evil people. I'm gonna bet they made something as terrible looking as they could get away with and still get paid.

I considered that, which would just mean the people commissioning it are too disconnected from humanity to spot the problem.
