Well to any large company, main activity/product X is only an annoying thing they have to deal with. Their true product is share value, just like their true customers are the stock holders.

Any *publicly traded company

Essentially the same thing, as pretty much no business gets very large without that, but an important distinction.

Privately held companies aren't "better" due to some natural rule. They can be just as greedy, it all comes down to the leadership and their goals.
