U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan declined a request to grant a stay after a jury ordered Donald Trump to pay writer E. Jean Carroll over $83 million for defamation.

"Twenty-five days after the jury verdict in this case, and only shortly before the expiration of Rule 62's automatic stay of enforcement of the judgment," Kaplan noted. "Mr. Trump has moved for an 'administrative stay' of enforcement pending the filing and disposition of any post-trial motions he may file. He seeks that relief without posting any security."

"The Court declines to grant any stay, much less an unsecured stay, without first having afforded plaintiff a meaningful opportunity to be heard," the judge wrote in his one-page order.

Must admit I'm quite enjoying the last few weeks of Trumps legal woes.

I wonder what's on the agenda for March. Hopefully Jack Smith is limbering up for something special.

I hope one of the many, many court actions against him actually manages to make him face some real consequences that will cause a measurable impact on him and his behaviour.

I think we're seeing that right now?

He's obviously deeply upset about the outcome of the NYC thing. I don't think he cares about the criminal aspects but having to pay $450m in penalties is a bitter pill.

Impacting his behavior is a difficult one. He tends to just double down when things go wrong. I do like to think that his opportunities will start to diminish. By that I mean it's possible that a few wealthy power brokers might decide that they're not going down with his sinking ship.

Looks like it's up to the state of New York; the federal criminal stuff looks dead in the water. The Supreme Court is just going to sit on the DC case and Judge Cannon is in the process of strangling the Florida one.
