Very much so, I actually wouldn't recommend it for most people.

I watched the old series and the new one (new ones?) were certainly weighing on my mind as I remember I used to adore the anime. I might just watch the new one soon to be honest.

They actually explain a lot of the original story. If you liked the old ones I'd watch the Gou and Sotsu from 2020-21. I think the last season actually translates to Graduation or something. Hopefully that's not too much of a spoiler.

yeah. the anime tried to remove the open politics but the original visual novel is a deeply antifascist work

umineko, the author's next work, is even more antifa, and has several trans characters and is maybe the most fundamentally queer works of fiction i've read that was written by someone i'm pretty sure is cishet. it's also where my avatar comes from
