Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum was announced to be in development on May 9, 2024 with a planned release in 2026. The script is being developed by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and set to be directed by and star Andy Serkis.
All the cool shit in the Legendarium and they keep going back to the most boring stuff.

IIRC, the Tolkien estate refuses to allow any further mining of the Legendarium for movie/TV adaptations.
The Rings of Power series have already been made, so at this point they might as well let it go and give everyone permission to make whatever they want.
Crazy thing (I think ?) about the ROP show is that they didn't even let Amazon use all of the source material.
