Was Sudan a socialist nation at any point in time, especially after the coup by Jaafar Muhammad Nimeiry?

No, Nimeiry was just an anti-imperialist bourgeois nationalist similar to Nasser and he purged the Communist Party after taking power even though they had supported his revolution. You can read more about this in The Darker Nations by Vijay Prashad.
