That shouldn't terrify you, with proper maintenance and half a brain you should be fine.
THIS SHOULD TERRIFY YOU INSTEAD: nitrogen oxides (NOx), including nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and formaldehyde (CH2O or HCHO), and unburned gas containing benzene aren't anything you want to raise kids around.
