since the other thread is full of people insisting that top Democrats never said otherwise, yes they did.
Hell, despite the admission we all know the US regime and its many lackeys are going to repeat the lie again. As they have, time and time again, with say- the true reasons for the war (NATO expansion, with many figures like Jan Stoltenberg blatantly contradicting themselves over and over), the bad-faith approach to the Minsk accords by the west, the issues of Nazism across Ukraine and within its government and army, etc...
The western elites and all those who buy into their drivel are living in a post-reality, post-truth, post-logic and reason world. Whatever is inconvenient doesn't exist, until it does, and then only briefly when advantageous, until it becomes inconvenient again.
