I also often can't upload images to lemmy due to this bug, but there's nothing I can do about it for now. (This is why I've added imgur links instead of images)

I had a similar problem. It was a result of the “show read posts” being unticked in my profile settings. Unfortunately, this also appears to hide your own posts.
