I noticed this too yesterday when I posted a youtube link on Lemmy. Couldn't get the Cyrilic blurb to go away, so switched to a piped.video link. Probably for the best anyway.

Talking it over with Lemmy.World admins, we're thinking it's because the server is in Finland and YouTube is going "Eh, Russia, close enough!"

In all unfairness to these companies, geolocation via IP address is pretty hit or miss sometimes
