I keep a spectral analyzer app on my phone so I can check if it's a real noise or just tinnitus settling in.
Which one are you using?
I like AudioTool by jjbunn. But you'll need an external mic if you want anything resembling accuracy.
Spectal Analyzer Pro. There's a free version too.
It's practically abandonware at this point.
i've just been using audacity for that myself, i'll record the source of the noise, and then clean it up and play it back a little to make sure it's not just, barely audible.
