Couple years ago a Youtube-Googler told me that adblockers are their big worry. Suckers.
Technology
A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.
Remember the overriding ethos on Beehaw: Be(e) Nice. Each user you encounter here is a person, and should be treated with kindness (even if they’re wrong, or use a Linux distro you don’t like). Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Seems fair enough, I've personally been freeloading for a while. Youtube is irreplacable, so there's not much we can do.
I guess this is the kick in the pants to go over to odysee or somewhere else, huh
looking forward to the day Oddysee isn't mainly alt right weirdness (I'm not a fan) and tinfoil hat level privacy nerds (I am a fan, but I have other interests too...)
I tend to agree. Something federated like PeerTube seems ideal for curating what kinds of content you want, but the data requirements for that are going to be much higher than mostly text and image-based things like lemmy or mastodon
YouTube feels unusable without an ad-blocker. I've gotten like 30min crazy conspiracy videos as an ad that shit is bonkers.
"Youtube considering incentivizing piracy"
FreeTube, Invidious, or Rumble.
