Guys, I have something to brag about. After almost a year of hard learning, I finally created my first mobile game! Storiado is a board game alternative that will make you wonder what's wrong with your friends. Play by answering simple questions, mix all the answers, and generate the most twisted story you've ever read. And then read it aloud, well, if you can manage it.

Game is available for

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/storiado-twisted-party-game/id6449257650

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beakbyte.storiado

Have you ever played Consequences? It's a simple game where you create a story by answering questions and mixing up the answers. We love playing it with friends; it's a ton of fun and laughs, but the problem was that you needed several sheets of paper and pens for each game. We decided to solve this issue and created Storiado, a twisted party game that essentially follows very similar rules to Consequences, but additionally, an AI generates a story from all players' answers. The more twisted answers you come up with, the better the story will be. Of course, the funniest stories always come out when you answer using inside jokes, etc. Both the answers and the generated story must be read aloud to the rest of the friends, and believe me, sometimes it's hard. The game has a single-player mode, but to experience the full potential of Storiado, we recommend a minimum of 2 players. The more, the better.

Please let me know what you think about it. Thanks!

Could you please explain the need for so many permissions(35)?

Like why would a board game need access to:

  • Biometrics
  • Fingerprint
  • Receive Boot Completed??

https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/446250/#permissions

Biometrics are one thing, why does this need read/write to external storage and settings, and system alert permissions?

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 7 months ago

There’s absolutely no non-nefarious reason this app would need those permissions. Gross.

Seems like a red flag to me.

The lack of response to this question by OP further reddens the flag.

OPs flag is so red shifted it's invisible by now.

Looks interesting, but I think a website would be better suited for this (so people can spontaneously play it without having to download anything). Please consider making one :)

We will definitely consider it, thank you for your opinion.

friends

Guess I'm out then

[–] vox@sopuli.xyz 20 points 7 months ago

btw the app language should be based on the one set in the os, not location

[–] akwd169@sh.itjust.works 10 points 7 months ago

Wow I was so excited to try this out until I saw the absurd level of permissions you require

I immediately lost interest

I find it very disconcerting that you have no response to other comments asking what your board game app could possibly need to use my fingerprints and other biometrics for

I hope i can find people to play this with me sometime. Looks like it has potential, and my solo try was amusing.

Perhaps some kind of prompt to get the creativity flowing more would help, with the questions asked. "Who scared you lately?" "What interesting place did you learn about recently?" Idunno something like that?

[–] inset 5 points 7 months ago

This is a great idea, thank you for that. We will definitely introduce something like this.

Looks interesting, what tech stack you used?

[–] inset 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Thanks! We used React Native with Expo. My dev bro said that this is his favorite stack, he has no problems at all and will definitely do all future games this way.

[–] Kret 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

What about backend? I see its realtime

[–] inset 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

We use .net with signalR or sf like that

[–] Kret 6 points 7 months ago

Ohh nice to see someone uses my backend stack! That's a really good choice :)

im having a social anxiety attack just reading this thanks

[–] Sensitivezombie@lemmy.zip 5 points 7 months ago

Great concept. Not excited about solo mode. For those who lack in the friends department, perhaps a multiplayer mode would be suitable. This the only thing that is keeping me away from downloading your app. Unfortunately, there are a large majority of people, specifically in the millennial and onward generations, in the same situation as myself. Something to consider.

Very nice! Would be nice to turn off all vibrations/noises from the app

[–] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That should be a phone setting, not an app setting.

[–] Shawdow194@kbin.social 3 points 7 months ago

My phone is muted/silenced and im still experiencing vibrations. Other apps do not vibrate when my device is changed to mute. (Galaxy Note 9)

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 4 points 7 months ago

Source code?

[–] electric@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Congrats! I'll have to see who I can play this with, looks funny.

[–] inset 2 points 7 months ago

Thanks! I'm sure you'll be able to find someone, maybe even here.

If you would like to spend a little more time for us and you use ProductHunt, please also upvote here https://www.producthunt.com/posts/storiado , it's really hard to get through there. Thanks!

[–] hardaysknight@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

This is fantastic. I do wish you could read both stories and be able to vote who had the best story

[–] BlueEther@no.lastname.nz 1 points 7 months ago
