not only is 34 an important number in the when they cry series, this book takes place in 2017, meaning that the murders took place in 1983 WHICH IS THE YEAR HIGURASHI TAKES PLACE. also icymi 'when cicadas cry' is just a literal translation of higurashi no naku koro ni

Me, who's never played or looked much into Higurashi: "hey wait a minute that sounds like Higurashi".

Extremely bold move if they did just copy it and assumed nobody would notice.

the title is just the same, but the plot at least seems fairly different from the blurb and the reviews i skimmed

seems way less anti-cop than r07 too

No way lol. The Yakubian devils steals a non white person’s work and is making it a commentary about race lol.

She’s also a lawyer

I can already see the defense. “My team chose the name and I simply agreed. I apologize for any inconvenience. I’ll be sure to vet my team more carefully next time.”

at least the plot itself is fairly different (while still being an unsolved murder thriller) but this is egregious

i really wanna just ask the author if she's read the vn or just seen the anime, going to gatekeep her from the wtc fandom

higurashi does have some sus bits (some gross jokes but nothing beyond that) but this isn't one of them

::: spoiler higurashi spoilers the name of the main villain can also be read as 34, which is also true of a major character in umineko

I worry all the time about my work being too derivative and borrowing ideas too heavily from others. Then people like this just come along and steal a whole story with no shame.

I don't care about the ciscadas!

Heheh

See what I did there?

i don't, no. higurashi isn't the trans one, that's umineko so i'm unsure where you're going with this cis joke

feels kinda like you're making fun of trans people who make down with cis jokes tbh

[–] Pluto@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago

Oh, I was making a cis joke at the expense of cis people, not trans people.

My bad, comrade.
