Uses Linux for the first time

Installs Arch

[–] ColdWater@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean if you ditch Windows and use Linux you might as well go all the way

[–] TomViolence@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Atta boy :)

[–] azvasKvklenko@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

That’s the way. Nothing improves the experience on Linux as much as a bit of learning curve. You may go with easy few clicks setup distro and then once you stumble upon any issue you’re clueless. Besides, Arch is much easier to understand than something like Ubuntu.

I like that move, no need to be cold

It's a good and easy way to learn Linux.

LOL I don't know who that is, but when I found this artwork on Wallheaven after scrolling for an hour I thought she's pretty cute and she probably the type who use Arch on daily basis

I love your attitude lol

[–] lupec@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nice, that's a clean looking setup! Gotta love how flexible Plasma is.

Side note, losing write access to one's own home directory sounds traumatic lol, even more so when you're new to Linux. Glad you stuck with it anyway!

[–] ColdWater@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Haha, I lose my write access because my dumbass trying to setup SFTP and somehow screwed it all up now I'm using SMB which is much easier to setup than SFTP

[–] lupec@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Fair enough, no judgement here either way! Unix permissions can be daunting going in, I know I've struggled with them quite a bit back when I was learning 😅

Try SF Pro Display instead of Noto

[–] NoisyFlake@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Yes! SF Pro is the only font for me that looks good on a low DPI display.

[–] ColdWater@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks I'll give that a try

Thanks you :D, it's so minimal yet it took me 3 hours to setup

[–] observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

Very nice. I've been daily driving KDE for 20 years and only changed the default wallpaper once or twice.

Nice! Makes me wanna leave xfce for a while and try KDE. It's been like 8 years since the last time I tried it.

How did you put the application menubar on the panel?

[–] ColdWater@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

You mean global menu? It's just a widget so you can add it to anywhere on the desktop just search "global" in the widget menu

Since time how? Like you've been using it for how long?

[–] ColdWater@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

2 weeks, this is my first time using arch for real

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

arch for real

First lesson, you're supposed to say "arch btw"

[–] 0x4A6F6579@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

You've made a good choice. Arch is the way.
