Suicide is not a mental health problem alone and trying to address it medically will fail. We must address the societal causes as well.

Treatment can still help, but yeah, way too much onus is put on the individual and not enough on the society

That’s usually true, but not always, because peopla aren’t all suicidal for the same reason. I’m not saying this in an attempt at debate. My suicidality was due to a vitamin processing problem. Started taking the correct supplement, within days, it was gone, after almost 20 years of constant suffering. But yeah, in most cases, there are broader social determinants of mental health involved.

Good on the aunt for recognizing that giving away possessions can be a sign of suicidal ideation. I guess she had been through it herself and understood.
