So why the fuck is Perez driving for them next year?!

[โ€“] flauschke@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sponsors maybe? I'm not sure at this point

[โ€“] TheBlue22@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're gonna regret that sponsor money when they lose the constructors championship

[โ€“] cheddar@programming.dev 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That depends on how much money they gain from the commercial side of Perez vs how much they can lose.

[โ€“] TheBlue22@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Redbull got 140 million for constructors last year. I highly doubt they get that much from their sponsors

[โ€“] cheddar@programming.dev 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Red Bull doesn't need to get 140kk from their sponsors. They need to get the difference between P1 in the standings and P2 - that's only 9kk [1]. Besides, let's not limit ourselves to sponsors. There are other potential sources of money related to his marketability in Latin America, the main Red Bull company might be interested in that as well.

Identical lap times for pole! Crazy. Second time in F1 history.

Hamilton was doing so well. Dang, was hoping to see him higher up on the grid.

RB might not win constructors this year if he keeps this shit up.

[โ€“] flauschke@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago

Ferrari didn't excel today either. I hope they get some points tomorrow

Conspiracy time: rb gets more windtunnel time if they win drivers but not constructors...

Iโ€™m someone who very superficially follows F1. Can someone tell me what he did?

[โ€“] Grumpydaddy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Perez failed to make it past the first qualifying round, finishing 16th, while his teammate, Max, grabbed the number two spot for tomorrow's race.

[โ€“] ElJefe@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh damnโ€ฆ he seemed to be doing really well earlier in the season. Thatโ€™s disappointing. Thanks mate

[โ€“] Grumpydaddy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

There has always been a pretty large gap between Perez and Max in terms of performance. It's been speculated that it is more a matter of the competition's cars getting faster than Perez's performance declining. They have found a way to catch up with Red Bull car and only Max's skill is keeping them ahead.

Bounced in Q1.

Ferrari ๐Ÿ’€

What a bonkers qualifying so far.

[โ€“] AlexisFR@jlai.lu 7 points 1 year ago

.0001 time difference lol

[โ€“] dimspace@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm sorry, but this is why you dont give someone who's grossly under-performing a 2 year contract at this point of the season.

You use the possibility of a contract to motivate and then reward performance

You dont give the contract and hope that motivates them to perform

I mean at least its distracted from Horner, everyones laughing at Checo now

I think they were hoping that the comfort of knowing heโ€™s safe would help him but clearly that hasnโ€™t worked.

Heโ€™s on a 1+1 deal so if this keeps up I doubt heโ€™ll get the +1.

A tie at .000, That's a nice number

This season is evolving into an absolute classic. Look at the margins

[โ€“] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Holy moly indeed, Russell.

Wonder what happened with Albon's rear right tire.

[โ€“] l_b_i@yiffit.net 2 points 1 year ago

First guess is the wheel nut started to come out of where its captive and was stuck. That's just a guess though.

[โ€“] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 2 points 1 year ago

When qualy is this amazing I barely even care about the race to be honest. What a great show that was.

[โ€“] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How are Merc suddenly doing so well, and Ferrari so slow?!

[โ€“] BowtiesAreCool@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ferrari sent both cars out on used tires for their finals runs of Q2

[โ€“] soEZ@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Classic Ferrari strategy...you cantndo badly in q3 if u never get into q3...

Rain could make it an interesting quali.

Perez ๐Ÿ’€

Sargeant had quite a decent lap. Monstrous Q1 for Verstappen.

[โ€“] espentan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Curious to see if Lewis has something in the bag today. That seemed like some lap he put in, in FP3..

[โ€“] l_b_i@yiffit.net 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Interesting stroboscopic effect with Max and the AWS logos.
