Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

Lol. She used the SI thing as a cover to boost her numbers. She will say it was all her new fans who followed after seeing the video of her life-changing walk. She is such an inspiration 🙄 totally laughable, and so predictable.

This! Bots! All Bots. Look at Penny Lane's stats. If you google the show, PennyLane and Alix Earle are the most talked about SI models for 2024. Their photo's and videos are everywhere. There are hundreds of articles on these two models. Look at Penny's social stats or Alix Earle's stats. Their numbers show how FAKE BPapaya's are.
The only coverage BPapaya received is a PAID post on SI's IG, a Knix press release and a paid feature on SI online. The only coverage BPapaya received is the coverage that was promised to Knix for being the TOP sponsor of the SI Miami Swim show. Knix paid a lot of $$$$$$ for the coverage BPapaya received. NO media outlets picked up the Papaya Knix launch press release. Knix forgot to send a cheque. The SI SWIM Instagram account has 2.1 million followers, combine that with BPapaya's supposed 2.3 million followers 4.4 million followers. The joint BPapaya-SI instagram post didn't do well. BPapaya probably bought the tiktok views as well. The video of the full SI show is only at 54k views and 58 comments. People don't care about thebirdspapaya, SI Swim or Knix. They like a few models that's all. Where did SNL's NEW tens of thousands followers come from? Bots!! Not enough people watched the show or the SI instagram to garner that kind of attention. bonus LOL-SI Swim Instagram has 200k less followers than BPapaya. Sure Jan. PennyLane and Alix Earle videos and photos are all OVER the internet, including reddit. Fans made videos of Penny and Alix walking slow. Men are all commenting (gross but). The only Reddit posts BPapaya got was her snark. Now that's gone. That says a lot. Sarah's men didn't even show up. Perhaps the Jamaican's are bots too. I wonder if the SNL snark being cancelled will hurt SNL's already tanking popularity.

Every word you wrote makes so much sense. Why would this, almost 39-year-old, mom be pricking up over 10,000 followers a day after the SI show and the other models aren’t? Because she’s buying them and they aren’t. The real question is why does she feel the need to do it? She already claims more followers than many, legitimate, celebrities. Why isn’t she satisfied?

Great PI work! Your explanation and literally truth in actual stats is very telling. Yet others are so blind to it

[–] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

This really does put it all into context. It’s honestly confusing why Sarah doesn’t try to be a little more discreet. I guess her fans aren’t known to pay attention to inconsistencies (yet)?

How much do you want to bet her new followers are from the Caribbean? What was that bot’s comment again? “You are so small and beautiful in real life” 😂😂😂

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago

I wonder how much more expensive the enegent bot package costs as compared to the -just padding the numbers - package

[–] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

OMG that was so funny. 💀

[–] Bonjourmadame@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I hate when she says "the right people will see my worth" when she's doing something in a bikini. Your worth? So you need attention on your body for worth? That's not what her platform stands for, her body is the least interesting thing about her, no?
She's such a hypocrite and fake.

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

She contradicts herself all the time. She tells us bodies are just a ‘vessel’ and then the next day she’s putting all her worth in how she looks. We know the most important thing to her is how she looks. What 39-year-old mom pulls into the high school parking lot and videos herself before going to their child’s classroom saying she hopes she’s mistaken for a student? A mess up one!

[–] Bonjourmadame@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

Yup. She's sad.

[–] Thefrogsbanana@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I can see these being legitimate because of the SI thing, but it won't last.

I would say that yes she did gain some followers because of the SI but the largest gains should have been in the first couple of days when it first happened, and then slowly decreased. Hers started small then exploded today with almost 25K. There is no way that 25K people followed her in one day this many days past the super special walk. Her stuff is pushed down the SI page and less and less people are seeing it.

Edit: Especially since she is in the red consistently.

Why doesn’t IG do bot sweeps anymore?

[–] after_act@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Instagram has this nifty little button on accounts, under your followers, where you can view and remove all spam accounts. I use it regularly on my business account. Those types of accounts do is tank your engagement numbers, which limits your reach to real followers.

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago

So why do account like TBP and Alicia McCarvell regularly buy followers? I’m actually interested in the perspective of someone who knows how the algorithm works

[–] InfluencersNeedToGo@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago

Sure. Make it make sense.
