Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

…only you don’t look like "this". Edges of body, especially legs are so blurred and warped. Assuming most influencers having high res phone cameras — most her body videos seem to be low res. (for a reason)

Sure, Jan. Her neck in her reel from today and her neck when she was on Breakfast Television (where they had to turn off the comments because so many people commented on how different she looks from her IG—oh, and Women’s Health magazine also turned off the comments for the same reason). SI deleted TONS of comments too. What an absurd human. All the people who boost her lies and bullshit are disgusting people.

It's sad she prefers her altered self to her real self yet is making a living on body positivity.

[–] Maeve@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 months ago

I have nfi who this woman is, but personally think the photo on the right looks a lot better.

[–] Beepbopajeepp@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Is she trying to soft launch that she’s on OhZem📸

[–] olivesandpoppies@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I posted this in another thread or whatever these things are called, but I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a partnership announced with that company that does the anti-bloat stuff? I went into block a few more influencers last night, and then started getting the ads for arrae 🙄. Companies should not be comparing themselves to a medication that is medically necessary for some people that main stream has just adopted as being a quick fix. But here this company is likening themselves to that med. I report the ads like this as scams. Of course, below, they clarify that this is not been approved by the FDA to cover their asses, but it reminds me of high school going into a supplement store and being able to buy things like Hydroxycut at the age of 15 because everybody and their mother were advertising it and magazines like oxygen, etc. As someone who did struggle with a severe eating disorder for years, I will say that the targeted ads that I’ve been getting that correlate with some Canadian influencers are extremely problematic in convincing people that using a product will make you look completely different within an hour. They almost feel like people approaching you in a grocery store parking lot trying to convince you to buy weight loss teas, except those types of people listen when you say not interested (And they are sadly often roped into MLM’s as a last ditch effort to make money on false promises so I feel bad for those type of people) but instead we’re bombarded constantly with the diet industry ads and collabs. I think we need to stop using the word influencer and start using the word “pushers”.

[–] Rarepotato@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I fully expect this too. She has a greasy snake-oil salesperaon vibe. Ewww

[–] olivesandpoppies@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, and it is totally inappropriate for brands to claim things, but then state that they’re not approved by the FDA. Fun fact, though, did you know that the origins of snake oil actually started with Chinese immigrants who were essentially indentured slaves working on the Railroad. They brought with them medicine made with the water snake which was found in China and it did actually alleviate a lot of pain symptoms as a lot of natural medicines can when used appropriately especially ones that had been proven to work for thousands of years. But then, of course, greedy Americans and I think there was a guy whose last name was Stanley? Started the whole thing of using like rattlesnake oil, but then they found that he wasn’t even using rattlesnake oil. It was like mineral oil or something? Go read about it it’s crazy! But yeah, basically Chinese immigrants did really bring legitimate snake oil with them that did help with things and then a white colonizer ended up trying to make profit from selling something but didn’t even have the ingredients in it. Hence its negative connotations with lying/cheating people out of $.

This is fascinating! Thanks for this new rabbit hole! I'm not surprised in the least. It’s the same thing with marijuana and other Earth medicines that the government makes illegal so the pharmaceutical companies can thrive. The FDA is complicit in this, too. It’s all a complete mindfuck.

[–] olivesandpoppies@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago

Exactly. We use smudging and drink cedar tea, and take honey at the first sign of illness but we also use pharmacy meds. A lot of people just mess around though with no traditional medicine knowledge or like medical school. When there are no double blind studies, and there is no evidence proving ingredients are beneficial, then it’s a bunch of charlatans trying to rip people off. Unfortunately, even people who are in the medical field are realizing how much money they can make from selling their own brands of different drinks with maybe one or two proven ingredients, but not put together in a way that actually makes a difference in anyone’s life. I really think this needs to be more closely regulated. In Canada cannabis is legal, and a lot of doctors are acknowledging that it is a good alternative to many other more harmful (to our livers, kidneys, etc) pharmaceuticals. Many traditional Indigenous medicines have actual healing properties, but unfortunately once anything non-pharmaceutical starts to be used on social media where nobody questions testing, results and actual feedback.

fascinating!

SI runway face

[–] facialSwelling@lemmy.ca 24 points 4 months ago (3 children)

TBP confidence only shows up in a bathroom with 17 filters activated.

[–] facialSwelling@lemmy.ca 20 points 4 months ago (2 children)

She's a dimwit. Flapping around her bathroom on a Saturday morning. IRL she hides behind Joanna's apron, too scared to respond to the filter allegations. Wimp.

[–] Rarepotato@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 months ago

Nailed it!!

[–] auntiemameishung@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago

🤣🤣🤣

[–] ThatOrangeBird@lemmy.ca 18 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

What are these facial expressions? 😆🤣💀 I'm dying, this approaching 40 year old woman is in her bathroom on a Saturday morning, in her little bikini, wiggling her bits, finger gunning, smirking and fish lipping at herself in her phone, trying extra hard to get that over-botoxed, Star Trek extra forehead to move. It's tragic. Hilarious (she looks like such a cringe fool), but tragic.

[–] Spicykitty@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago

You have an amazing way with words 😂😂

[–] Spicykitty@lemmy.ca 14 points 4 months ago

Insane we are supposed to believe this little pencil neck supports the body size that we saw on the SI runway. Ain't no fucking way. What a joke

[–] OddQuality@lemmy.ca 22 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I don't follow her actual social media anymore, I just see what gets posted here soo it's quite possible I've missed it.. but it occurred to me the other day, while I was at the beach, that I have seen this woman in more bathing suits than I've seen myself. BUT I've never actually seen her get into any water? Lol.. like, what is the point? She really just wants the validation of being told she's beautiful, to get those likes via semi-nude videos, and it really has nothing to do with confidence or the clothes at all. Like, c'mon TBP, DO A CANNONBALL! How are people not bored to death of this?

Look at this comment. She's such a asshole to lie and manipulate like she does. It’s almost like she gets off on getting away with it.

[–] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Whoever commented that must not have been around long. She flaunts her cellulite.

[–] Rarepotato@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago

Except on this reel, it looks as if she has none. That's the point. They don't know that based on this video.

[–] BirdsaLiar@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 months ago

I also want the cellulite that comes and goes when I want it to.

[–] Bonjourmadame@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Lol what was her response to this?

[–] Rarepotato@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 months ago

No response at all. Of course.

[–] You_received_that_way@lemmy.ca 20 points 4 months ago (1 children)

She is getting so cocky after the SI event.

This is blantent filtering.

[–] FraudulentFruit1@lemmy.ca 19 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I can’t stand her effin' face

[–] nofilterdiva96@lemmy.ca 14 points 4 months ago

What the actual fuck. This looks nothing like the woman that was at SI a few weeks back. She is UNHINGED

[–] Travellingmonkey@lemmy.ca 14 points 4 months ago

Wow the second hand embarrassment I got from watching that 😬

[–] Tightlikespandex@lemmy.ca 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Like it’s one thing to go into “another summer looking like” this but she only does this for photo shoots. Not in real life and she owns a pool.

[–] facialSwelling@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 months ago

She can't control the content as much outside of her bathroom-photo studio.

[–] crownofgold6@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

I’ve been away and not as up to date on her crap (it’s been a blessing really haha) but lord this video was so embarrassing for her. She really loves to act like she’s the only person with a body like this, there is tons of people at the pools or beach with this body, get over yourself Sarah! She wants to be a victim so bad over her body yet all she does is bring attention to it.

She thought she was so hot too with her lame moves, I’m literally feeling so much secondhand embarrassment for this woman and her act.

[–] olivesandpoppies@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago

Okay so I covered the face from the SI pic and asked my partner “whose body is this” (they don’t know SNL at all) just to see who they’d guess. The guesses were all people we know (an in law, a neighbour etc). You know why? It really is a body that is very very typical. The nutty thing is, that’s what got a lot of people hooked - because they were like “oh. An average human !” But when the edits are there… it sends the message that average is not okay. Screw that! That then means anyone below this patriarchal standard of “average” is totally unworthy of anything. This stuff is so triggering for ED.

[–] NachoMommy@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago

I cannot stand her. Fucking body confidence with filters on constantly.

[–] Rivurd@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago

I can’t stand her! Make this stop PLEASE

[–] YouReceivedItLikeThat@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

She is such a joke. It’s comical at this point. 🤡

[–] FraudulentFruit1@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

This video was beyond cringy. Like she’s trying hard to go viral. Did she post to TT?? I have her ass blocked there.

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

She’s jealous Becci went viral

[–] FraudulentFruit1@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

How Becci went viral I will never understand! It was beyond stupid.

Also she posted 20 minutes ago on a Saturday morning and there’s already 5,000 likes and 130 comments??? As freakin if

[–] BirdsaLiar@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 months ago

Who’s video idea did she copy?

[–] Bonjourmadame@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 months ago

Again...her.body is the least interesting thing...mmhmmmm

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If anyone has time today go look at the Cityline IG and it’s the poster where Meredith and Tracy are talking about Taylor Swift. It’s just the most hypocritical thing I’ve read and then look at the comments

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] Rarepotato@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

So only comment on bodies if it’s Sarah’s posts. She literally posts nonstop bikini and underwear pics/videos. Sarah RESPONDS to the comments telling her how amazing she looks. What happened to not commenting on bodies ever? She's such a hypocrite. They all are.

[–] facialSwelling@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 months ago

a huge hypocrite

[–] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 months ago

This is so stupid. I’d say more women look like this than not. Why does she insist on acting like she’s so special?
