the recipe is, steep some home-grown sage leaves in pure grain alcohol (i used everclear) for four days, then mix with the same volume of basically simple syrup and bottle it. Freeze it for a week at least before consumption.

It's so intensely herby, there's almost a peppermint quality to it on the sip. Only your breath afterwards has the classic sage flavor/smell. It's neon green when backlit. It gets you throwed if you drink more than a few slugs.

Who but Phineas Q. Swenson could bring you such amazing products‽

Until normal light it's clear? And the backlight green is due to the simple syrup?

Oh no, under normal light it's dark-ass scary green

Why? Because of the simple syrup?

the extremely intense original infusion of sage leaves and everclear is DARK ass green, like dark green dye. Mixing that half and half with the simple syrup thins it out visually and makes it palatable straight. The electric green look is just a result of backlight and the natural color of the sage pigment

I'm very surprised. Almost shocked. I've always assumed that any very dramatically colored liquor was made with an additive that created the color: food coloring, etc.

I would take a picture of the narrow bottle I had it in but I just finished it while working remote earlier because why not

I'll take more pictures when I do a basil liqueur soon

Yeah I am absolutely in the same boat. Two days into the sage/everclear infusion it was impossible to see through the jar because it was so dark and I didn't even cut or tear the leaves - they were whole leaves plucked off a plant.

It's something that pissed me off about The Walking Dead. Because modern civilization has ended - it's DIY for everything. Why didn't they have surprising DIY stuff? There's a million things they could have shown - like naturally strongly colored liquor and a character saying "How'd you get the food coloring?" Instead the DIY thing I remember most is somebody made goat cheese. And - in a non-spoiler - it tasted like shit for a longtime before he figured things out.

I stopped watching after the season where they were all stuck in that farmhouse, I think. I remember thinking that it was very apparent that the writers just hadn't ever lived outside of apartments and malls and college and shit. Just terrible writing both in concept of storytelling and actual lines.

I used to have a zombie fetish so I ended up watching ~7 seasons. I did that despite it being clear (I don't remember when - season 3?) that zero effort was being made to give the series a realistic fall of America dystopia vibe. But I get it - advertisers wouldn't have liked that at all.

Still - I sure wanted to see an HOA-brained Karen threatening to kill anybody who stole "her" tomatoes. Or what would they do if somebody killed somebody else and there's a Rashomon situation with ~4 people who have wildly different eye witness accounts. The POVs range from 100% justified to murder. I would have watched the shit out of an episode like that. The list of stuff the series avoided is endless. And...

I remember thinking that it was very apparent that the writers just hadn't ever lived outside of apartments and malls and college and shit.

It was series for redditors who wanted pure escapism. Once in a while there's some non-scary horror and the good guys fight the bad guys. It's unfortunate but TWD universe created an advertiser-friendly vision of the end of civilization and the following dystopia that many people now demand future fiction to be similar to. It's a shame TWD wasn't 100% on HBO.

This sounds absolutely wonderful, on its own or mixed with some seltzer and maybe a fruit of some sort.
